FHCA Resident of the Year Arthur Branner Arthur Branner is a caring individual with a passion for improving the quality of life for his fellow residents of Palm Garden of Ocala. He teaches Sunday school, leads a choir group and has even given tax prep assistance to the staff and residents. Activities director Alice Constant said, "His passion for life never slows down."	Arthur Branner 2008 FHCA Resident of the Year award. Mr. Branner passed away not long after being honored with this award. FHCA was proud to recognize him for his generous spirit and would like to express our condolences the Branner family.
FHCA Adult Volunteers of the Year June and R.J. Goff FHCA Immediate Past Chair David Sylvester (left) presented June and R.J. Goff the FHCA 2008 Adult Volunteers of the Year Award. For the past 11 years this couple has been devoting their time to Life Care Center of Orange Park, where they lead cooking groups and woodworking projects and share their caring spirits with the residents.
FHCA Young Adult Volunteers of the Year Katelyn and Kellie Parenda Just 12 and 14 years old, Katelyn and Kellie Parenda began volunteering at Palm Garden of Ocala to fulfill a school requirement. Two years later they continue to serve the facility each week by organizing activities and bringing youth and vitality to the residents through their enthusiasm.
FHCA Group Volunteer of the Year Reverend Ira Moore and Central Baptist Church Reverend Moore (center) and his wife, Pinky, received the FHCA Group Volunteer of the Year Award from FHCA Immediate Past Chair David Sylvester for spreading fellowship to the residents of Palm Garden of Ocala for over 19 years. Together with the members of Central Baptist Church, they conduct a weekly Sunday service, sing familiar hymns and keep the residents connected to their life-long religious traditions.
FHCA Media & Community Involvement Award Palm Garden of Ocala Administrator Jennifer Mikula (center) and Director of Community Relations Rhonda Dozie (left) accept the FHCA Media & Community Involvement Award on behalf of Palm Garden of Ocala. FHCA Immediate Past Chair David Sylvester presented the award in recognition of the facility's ongoing community outreach efforts, such as resident fishing trips, events with the local university and positive press coverage on their recent culture change transformations.
Willis J. Gregson Associate Member of the Year Award Karen Goldsmith, Goldsmith, Grout & Lewis, PA Ben Carotenuto (left) and Associate Member Support Chair Tim Gregson (right) honored Goldsmith for her more than 28 years of service to FHCA as its legal consultant, as well as her support of long term care issues at the national level.
Arthur H. Harris Government Services Award Joe Mitchell Joe Mitchell, CEO of Summit Care II of Tallahassee, was honored for his many tireless efforts during the 2008 legislative session. AS FHCA Multifacility Vice President, Mitchell facilitated meetings between FHCA and Florida's nursing home CEOs and owners to develop a unified campaign that included media outreach and grassroots efforts to remind Florida's legislators to keep their promise to continue providing for Florida's frail elderly by ensuring adequate nursing home funding.
Legislative Awards This year's legislative awards were presented to Senator Mike Fasano of New Port Richey, who received the 2008 Legislator of the Year, and Senator Gary Siplin of Orlando, who received the Braveheart Award. FHCA also recognized Aegis Therapies, Greystone Healthcare Management and Life Care Centers of America for support during the 2008 legislative session.
