This annual competition asks Certified Nursing Assistants working in our member facilities to draw from their personal experience and use their stories to address various relative and creative themes.
Florida Health Care Association’s annual CNA Essay Contest is a meaningful opportunity to recognize Certified Nursing Assistants at a very personal “where they work” level, heighten the awareness about these caregivers and celebrate their contributions to long term care. This year's theme, "Nursing Assistants New Roles, New Goals," will be promoted throughout Florida during National Nursing Assistants' Week (June 16-23, 2011). With this theme, we asked CNAs to tell us about their role in contributing to Advancing Excellence caregiving goals, particularly in the areas of resident safety, pressure ulcer reduction, helping with staff retention and minimizing resident pain. Examples included how the CNA learned the difference between a restraint and an enabler, or simple techniques like keeping water close to a resident, or how taking residents to the bathroom often can prevent falls while avoiding restraints. Essays used real-life experiences of how the CNA assists with staff recruiting or training and share personal experiences for communicating between and amongst staff.
