Tallahassee, FL – More than 800 long term care professionals from across Florida were on hand to applaud Andrew McKillop, administrator of Okeechobee Health Care Facility, as he was honored as the statewide 2016 Nursing Home Administrator of the Year by Florida Health Care Association (FHCA). The award, presented during FHCA’s Annual Conference in Orlando on August 7-11, is the highest honor given to a nursing home administrator in Florida’s long term care profession.

For the past 50 years, Andy McKillop has demonstrated proven leadership and a commitment to performance and excellence as an administrator in the long term care profession. As administrator of Okeechobee Health Care Facility for the last 30 years, he has delivered exceptional outcomes for residents and staff. He has served as preceptor, instructor, and adjunct professor for five health care administration programs at the masters and Ph.D. levels. He is known for his passion for all those he encounters, earning him numerous awards for high standards of resident care. McKillop’s knowledge and experience also earned him appointments by the President to the White House Conference on Aging and to the President’s Commission on Employment of the Handicapped.

“It’s truly an honor to recognize someone as dedicated and outstanding as Andy McKillop,” said FHCA Executive Director Emmett Reed. “He is a true role model for our entire profession, an impressive advocate for high quality care at the local and statewide levels. He is incredibly deserving of this award.”

The Nursing Home Administrator of the Year Award is given annually to a nursing home administrator at an FHCA-member center with demonstrated service to the Association, along with significant and measurable achievements in overall center administration, workforce innovation, survey record, and implementation of quality improvement programs, including the Advancing Excellence campaign and person-centered care models.
