Criminal History Procedural Changes from the Agency for Health Care Administration
There are some recent changes related to criminal history screenings through the Agency for Health Care Administration. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and by extension AHCA are now only conducting the Level 2 FBI interstate fingerprint screenings for positions that are required to undergo Level 2 screenings by law. This means that any nursing home or assisted living facility which chooses to screen over and above the requirements for Level 2 screenings will no longer be able to do so. AHCA may process Level 1 screenings for any health care provider licensed by the Agency. To ensure that fingerprint cards are processed appropriately AHCA recommends using the Background Screening Verification - Level 2 form. Get the form by visiting the Background Screening Unit on the Agency’s website ahca.myflorida.com/MCHQ/Long_Term_Care/Background_Screening/index.shtml Other related news is that the Agency’s Background Screening web site now accepts submission of background screening requests and electronic payment. Health Care Providers licensed by the Agency that have completed a User Agreement with the Agency’s Background Screening Unit may submit Level 1 and Level 2 screening requests online and choose to pay electronically by credit card, e-check, or mail in payment. If you are a licensed health care provider and would like more information on this system, please visit the Agency's web site at: ahca.myflorida.com/MCHQ/Long_Term_Care/Background_Screening/index.shtml.
