Correspondence Courses Offered By FHCA
Nursing home Administrators and licensed nurses are required, as a condition of initial licensure, to complete a 3 hour Board approved educational course on HIV/AIDS (s. 456.033(6), F.S.; 64B10-11.001, FAC; 64B9-15.009, FAC.)
IMPORTANT NOTE RE: NHA LICENSE RENEWAL. As a result of recently passed legislation, it was announced at the June 27 Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators Meeting that HIV continuing education is no longer a requirement for NHA biennial license renewal. The only mandatory course for NHA relicensure is the Medical Error Prevention course, which will be offered FREE as a correspondence course to full registrants at the FHCA/FCAL 2008 Annual Conference in Orlando. This correspondence course will be distributed when these attendees pick up their registration packets. The test for the course must be returned to FHCA Headquarters no later than Friday, August 29, so there is adequate time for staff to process and report the contact hours for NHA license renewal prior to the September 30th end of the biennium. These contact hours are applicable only to the current biennium and will not be reported if submitted after August 29th.
