Quality Credentialing
The Quality Summit

Florida Health Care Association's Quality Foundation first began hosting the annual Quality Summit in 2001. State and national leaders, AARP representatives, and key elected officials have converged at the Summit to discuss wide ranging issues affecting the state of quality in Florida's nursing homes and the continuing efforts at quality improvement. Along the way, forums have included ethical considerations of difficult decision making, focused on catastrophic behaviors, looked at expanding opportunities for the future, and analyzed client satisfaction tools.

The Teaching Nursing Home and the QIO will be partners in the 2005 Quality Summit planned for early March at the University of South Florida with an invitation extended to several national long term care leaders to participate in the more formal establishment of credentialing levels. Levels of quality credentialing are being developed for FHCA nursing home member facilities in order to better inform consumers on how the nursing homes compare overall in terms of Quality Measures, survey deficiency data, certifications and credentialing of staff, special activities, etc. Experts at the state and national levels will be involved along with the Quality Credentialing Foundation and the FHCA Board of Directors in the establishment of the credentialing levels.

Another consideration of this year's forum will be the impact of the Medicaid reductions' on nursing home quality of care and quality of life related activities. We want to be open to other information for inclusion in the reporting of quality of care and quality of life care outcomes in Florida.
