Virtual Risk Management Certificate Program

Available in May 2024

FHCA's Virtual Risk Management Certificate Program is designed to enable participants to effectively implement or enhance their skilled nursing facility’s risk management program. Leaders in risk management, including representatives from the Agency for Health Care Administration, will address topics that focus on advance directives, application of State of Florida risk requirements and federal risk-related regulations. The program will also expand participants' knowledge of high-risk areas such as elopement, significant incidents and accidents and more. In addition, participants will be educated on the reporting requirements under state and federal guidelines as they relate to risk and standards of investigation and documentation.

Virtual Program

  • Delivered over 12 education sessions for a total of 15 continuing education credits
  • Training Dates: The Event Platform will open in May 2024. Details coming soon.
  • Training Materials: 12 education sessions; post-exam; handout materials
  • Continuing Education Credits: FHCA will post contact hours to CE Broker after completion of the program. Participants must complete the 15 hours of education and post-exam to receive CEUs.

Meet the Speakers

Michelle Dillehay RN-BC, Registered Nursing Consultant, Agency for Health Care Administration

Michelle Dillehay RN-BC has been employed with the Agency for Health Care Administration since 1999. Currently, she enjoys working in the Survey and Certification Support Branch to provide training and quality assurance in Field Operations. She served as a supervisor and preceptor for the Orlando office that includes Orange, Seminole, Brevard and Osceola counties. Michelle was also a registered nurse specialist surveyor and a quality of care monitor for nursing homes and assisted living facilities from Daytona Beach to Miami. Michelle received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University in Ohio in 1988 and has her Certification in Gerontology from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She has enjoyed being a Registered Nurse for 30 years with over 25 years of experience in long term care.

Brandi Byrd, Program Administrator—SES, Agency for Health Care Administration

Brandi Byrd has been with Agency for Health Care Administration since January 2016. She is the Program Administrator for the Complaint and Intake Management Unit within the Division of Health Quality Assurance. The unit oversees every facility reported incident submitted to the Agency from multiple providers, including hospitals, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, and abortion clinics. Prior to her current role, she was a surveyor with Agency for several years. Ms. Byrd is a Registered Nurse with 13 years of professional experience providing direct care and risk management oversight for multiple provider types.

Robin Allen, Corporate Risk Manager, Synergy Healthcare Services

Robin Allen received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Florida State University in Speech Language Pathology. She has worked in Private Clinics, Acute Care, Rehab Hospitals, and Long-Term Care in various roles including leadership and direct Patient care. Robin became a Healthcare Risk Manager in 2002. Since then, she focused her efforts on proactive Risk Management in Long Term Care including the development and implementation of risk management programs for three companies inside and outside of FL. Robin is currently the Corporate Risk Manager for Synergy Healthcare Services.

Robin A. Bleier, RN, HCRM, President, RB Health Partner, Inc.

Robin A. Bleier is the President of RB Health Partners, Inc., a long-term care consultancy firm. She is the past Chair of the FHCA Emergency Preparedness Council, past Chair of the FHC-PAC, and a vested long term care advocate through her volunteerism and affiliation with numerous professional associations and committees. Robin is a featured state and national presenter, is FHCA’s RAI-MDS-PPS Bootcamp trainer and has been educating on this and other topics nationally since 1998. RB Health Partners, Inc. has a strategic partnership with FHCA, consulting with the Association on quality affairs, including survey readiness.

Karen Goldsmith, Attorney, FHCA's Regulatory Counsel

Karen Goldsmith currently serves as FHCA's Regulatory Counsel and previously served as Florida Health Care Association's Legal Counsel since 1980. She is on the American Health Care Association's Legal Subcommittee and served as its Chair for three years. She is active in the American Health Lawyers Association and served as Chair of their Long-Term Care subgroup for two years. She has been published in several books produced by AHLA. She practices primarily in long term care.

Hazel Mahoney, Chief Compliance Officer, Facility Support Company

Hazel Mahoney has been a Registered Nurse since 1978, training originally in England, working in the Middle East and then moving to Florida in 1990. She has worked in hospitals, long term care centers and physician provider organizations in various capacities. Hazel completed her BA in Health Administration through the University of Dundee distance learning program in 2012. Hazel has developed, implemented and monitored clinical risk management programs for three long term care companies in Florida, moving into Compliance in 2013. In 2014, Hazel achieved certification in Health Care Compliance and Health Care Privacy Compliance. She has developed, implemented, and now oversees comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Programs for different operating companies which meet OIG guidelines.

Kim Broom, Director of Clinical & Regulatory Services, Florida Health Care Association

Kim Broom has been a Registered Nurse for 35 years with 22 of the years in long term care as a Director of Nursing, Regional Nurse Consultant and other rolls. She is a risk manager and for six years was the administrator of a 68-bed assisted living center with an Extended Congregate Care license. She came to FHCA in May of 2017 and is the liaison to Senior Clinicians Council, Risk Compliance Council and the Florida Center for Assisted Living (FCAL) Committee.
