FHCA Commends Governor DeSantis for Preserving Nursing Home Funding Increase in State Budget

TALLAHASSEE, FL - In response to Governor DeSantis signing Florida's $92.2 billion budget that included a $105 million Medicaid funding increase for nursing center care, FHCA issued the following statement:

"FHCA commends Governor DeSantis for his forward-thinking decision to leave intact the Medicaid reimbursement increase for Florida’s nursing homes. As he shared in his press conference today, the Governor clearly recognizes that nursing homes are on the frontline of the COVID-19 public health emergency and the state must continue to support them, which includes having sufficient resources to properly protect Florida’s most vulnerable residents. The dedicated professionals who care for Florida’s long term care residents have performed truly heroic work throughout this pandemic. Being properly funded ensures they have the ability to continue keeping residents safe and delivering the high-quality care our state's seniors need and deserve.

Thanks to the leadership of Senate President Bill Galvano, House Speaker Jose Oliva, Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Rob Bradley and Subcommittee Chair Aaron Bean and House Appropriations Chair Travis Cummings and Subcommittee Chair Marylynn Magar, the Legislature wisely provided this much-needed additional funding. We thank Governor DeSantis for keeping it in place despite the difficult need to reduce the state’s overall spending plan."
