FHCA Commends Senate for Prioritizing Staffing Modernization for Nursing Center Residents

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) today praised the Senate Health Policy Committee for passing SB 804, a measure aimed at modernizing Florida’s nursing center staffing requirements to ensure comprehensive, holistic care for residents.

“Our state’s nursing center residents require far more specialized care than they did two decades ago, when existing standards were established. More of our residents need mental health therapists to help them cope with psychological challenges, occupational therapists to help them recover functional skills, respiratory therapists to help them with breathing conditions, and more,” said FHCA CEO Emmett Reed. “This legislation recognizes that staffing with specialized care provides the best, most complete caretaking environment for Florida’s elderly and people living with disabilities. FHCA appreciates Sen. Albritton and the Senate Health Policy Committee for recognizing the changing needs of Florida’s nursing center residents and advancing common sense legislation that will lead to improved quality care.”
