FHCA Applauds Gov. DeSantis for Signing State Budget with Significant Medicaid Funding Increase for Nursing Center Care

The Florida Health Care Association today expressed its sincere appreciation to Governor Ron DeSantis for signing the 2025–2026 state budget, which includes a $246.7 million increase in Medicaid funding for nursing center care. With more than one-third of Florida’s population projected to be over age 65 by 2030 — and the 85+ population expected to triple by 2050 — this investment is essential to serving Florida’s vulnerable and senior populations who depend on the state’s excellence in long term care.

FHCA CEO Emmett Reed issued the following statement:

“We are deeply grateful to Governor DeSantis for his steadfast leadership and commitment to Florida’s seniors and the caregivers who support them. This funding is a lifeline for residents, their families, and loved ones — ensuring that Florida continues to set the gold standard in long term care by delivering high-quality, compassionate, and innovative services."

“The Florida Legislature’s robust investment in long term care sends a powerful message that Florida will always lead the way in protecting and caring for its aging population and residents with disabilities. This funding will help nursing centers address the increasing demands for specialized care, strengthen the profession’s workforce, and uphold the quality standards that have made Florida a national leader in long term care."

“With two-thirds of nursing center residents relying on Medicaid, this investment ensures seniors and individuals with disabilities can continue to receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.”
