FHCA Praises House for Taking Dynamic Steps to Address the Long Term Care Labor Crisis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) today thanked the Florida House of Representatives for providing much-needed funding for centers to make investments in their staff and the residents entrusted to their care. The House budget includes a 3.4% increase (approximately $127 million) in Medicaid funding for nursing center care. This proposal sets a framework for the House, as lawmakers move to formally adopt a spending plan for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.

The following statement may be attributed to FHCA CEO Emmett Reed:

“Members of the House have repeatedly championed the needs of Florida’s growing elderly population and individuals with disabilities living in nursing centers, by advancing legislation to modernize staffing and increasing funding to ensure providers have the resources needed to provide high-quality care. FHCA appreciates Speaker Sprowls and Representatives Trumbull and Avila for their leadership in taking dynamic steps to address the health care labor crisis to meet the needs of Florida’s most vulnerable residents. Through these important proposals, the House has shown its commitment to giving today’s health care workers the opportunity to thrive and grow while building up opportunities for the next generation of caregivers.”
