CNA Test Prep Course

After completing the CNA Train-the-Trainer Session, participants will be equipped to conduct the 80-hour CNA Test Prep Course in their facilities to prepare prospective employees for taking the Florida's Nursing Assistant Certification Exam. The curriculum, including the instructor and student manuals, is copyrighted to Florida Health Care Association. Under the exemption granted by the Florida Department of Education, the curriculum is only to be used by FHCA-trained instructors in FHCA member facilities.

Unique components of the CNA Test Prep Course include:

• a 10-day (80 hour) training curriculum
• fully compliant with OBRA requirements, though not a State of Florida-approved course
• designed for use in Florida's long term care facilities (FHCA member facilities)
• course completers sit for the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam as "challengers" and work as "hospitality attendants" (providing indirect patient care) while waiting to take the exam and receiving the results

During the CNA Test Prep course, students receive at no charge to them, a Student's Manual which includes:

• A comprehensive Twelve-Chapter Review (based on OBRA) of the information needed to pass the state Nursing Assistant Certification Exam, complete with tests
• A review of 21 Basic Skills, cross-referenced to skills noted in the Prometric Nursing Assistant Candidate handbook
• Interactive exercises which promote work pride, elder sensitivity, and basic professional conduct skills
• The process and time frames now in place for State of Florida Exam testing of nursing assistants

The CNA Test Prep Course is OBRA compliant, but is not a state-approved CNA training program. This program is not reimbursable, but the CNA exam is eligible for reimbursement. The course completers may not work as nursing assistants until they take the CNA exam and their names appear in the Florida CNA Registry. While the course completers are waiting to get the results of their exam, they may work at the facility as hospitality assistants, providing non-patient care, indirect services. Because this is not a “state approved training program,” providers can’t lose the program due to survey deficiencies.
