FHCA's Introduction to Risk Management program will give participants the tools to effectively implement or enhance their center’s risk management program. Leaders in risk management, including representatives from the Agency for Health Care Administration, will address topics that focus on advance directives, application of the State of Florida risk requirements and federal risk-related regulations. The program will also expand participants' knowledge of high-risk areas such as elopement, significant incidents and accidents and more. In addition, participants will learn the reporting requirements under state and federal guidelines as they relate to risk and standards of investigation and documentation.
Virtual, Live Broadcast
- Delivered over 8, virtual live broadcasted sessions and four pre-recorded sessions for a total of 15 hours.
- Training Dates: The virtual, live broadcasted sessions are scheduled for May 8. All registered attendees will access these sessions through Zoom. These sessions will also be recorded and available to watch between May 9 – 31.
- Training Materials: 12 video sessions; post-quiz; handout materials
- Continuing Education Credits: This program offers a total of 15 computer-based contact hours. FHCA will post contact hours to CE Broker by June 5, 2024. Participants must have completed the session videos and passed the post-quiz by May 31, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. EST to receive CEUs.
Meet the Speakers
Robin Allen received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Florida State University in Speech Pathology. Robin’s career has focused on post-acute care initially in Therapy Services. In 2002, Robin became a Healthcare Risk Manager and has focused her efforts on proactive and response driven Risk Management. Robin is the Vice Chair of the FHCA Risk and Compliance Council. Robin is currently the Chief Risk Officer for The Lilac Health Group supporting a large portfolio of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities across Florida.
Robin A. Bleier is the President/CEO of RB Health Partners, Inc., a long-term care consultancy firm. She is the past Chair of the FHCA Emergency Preparedness Council, past Chair of the FHC-PAC, and a vested long term care advocate through her volunteerism and affiliation with numerous professional associations and committees. Robin is a featured state and national presenter, is FHCA’s RAI-MDS-PPS Bootcamp trainer and has been educating on this and other topics nationally since 1998. RB Health Partners, Inc. has a strategic partnership with FHCA, consulting with the Association on quality affairs, including survey readiness.
Kim Broom has been a Registered Nurse for 37 years with 24 years in long term care as a Director of Nursing, Regional Nurse Consultant, and other rolls. She is a risk manager and for six years was the administrator of a 68-bed assisted living center with an Extended Congregate Care license. She came to FHCA in May of 2017 and is the liaison to Senior Clinicians Council, Risk Compliance Council, Infection Prevention Council, and the Florida Center for Assisted Living (FCAL) Committee.
Karen Goldsmith currently serves as FHCA's Regulatory Counsel and previously served as Florida Health Care Association's Legal Counsel since 1980. She is on the American Health Care Association's Legal Subcommittee and served as its Chair for three years. She is active in the American Health Lawyers Association and served as Chair of their Long-Term Care subgroup for two years. She has been published in several books produced by AHLA. She practices primarily in long term care.
Hazel Mahoney has been a Registered Nurse since 1978, training originally in England, working in the Middle East and then moving to Florida in 1990. She has worked in hospitals, long term care centers and physician provider organizations in various capacities. Hazel completed her BA in Health Administration through the University of Dundee distance learning program in 2012. Hazel has developed, implemented and monitored clinical risk management programs for three long term care companies in Florida, moving into Compliance in 2013. In 2014, Hazel achieved certification in Health Care Compliance and Health Care Privacy Compliance. She has developed, implemented, and now oversees comprehensive Ethics and Compliance Programs for different operating companies which meet OIG guidelines.
