FHCA Awards $3,750 in Long Term Care Scholarships

Scholarships Help Member Center Employees Pursue Goals to Advance Career, Support Resident Care Needs

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) has awarded $3,750 in scholarships to caregivers striving toward furthering their careers in the long term care field. Funds are made available through the FHC Education and Development Foundation which offers two types of scholarships. The Bruce Taylor Scholarship supports individuals enrolled in programs to advance their nursing career, while the Career Climb Scholarship assists individuals enrolled in non-nursing programs, such as long term care administration, certified dietary management, or other health-related fields.

The following four caregivers have been awarded a Bruce Taylor Scholarship:

 • Josette Josma is currently employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Isles of Boynton Beach Nursing and Rehab. She is enrolled at the Hearts Associates Institute and studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
 • Eulanda Lugg is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Covenant Village Care Center in Plantation. She is enrolled in the LPN to Registered Nurse Bridge Program at Jersey College School of Nursing.
 • Edrice Jean Baptiste is Unit Manager at Wood Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenacres and is studying to be a nurse practitioner at Miami Regional University.
 • Jean Joseph at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boynton Beach. She is studying to become a nurse practitioner at the International College of Health and Science of Nursing

In addition, two caregivers enrolled in the Certified Dietary Manager Program at the University of Florida have been awarded a Career Climb Scholarship: Errol Webley, dietary supervisor at Menorah Life in St. Petersburg, and Janice Hall-Gordon, dietary supervisor at West Melbourne Health and Rehabilitation Center.

“As Florida’s elderly population increases, there is a growing need for qualified long-term care professionals,” said Emmett Reed, Chief Executive Officer of Florida Health Care Association. “These individuals have shown dedication in pursuing this profession, and FHCA is pleased to contribute to advancing their education, expanding their careers and addressing Florida’s need.”

Scholarships are awarded to FHCA member center employees through the Florida Health Care Education and Development Foundation, the 501c3 organization of the Florida Health Care Association. Learn more about the foundation at http://www.fhcafoundation.org.
