FHCA Recognizes Florida House for Including Funding Increase in Initial Budget Proposal

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Today, the Florida House of Representatives released its 2022-2023 proposed budget recommendations, including an increase to Medicaid funding for nursing center care. Florida Health Care Association issued a statement thanking House members for understanding the need to invest in our state’s nursing centers to help them build a stronger workforce.

The following statement may be attributed to Emmett Reed, Chief Executive Officer of FHCA:

“FHCA appreciates the Florida House for hearing our concerns about the significant workforce challenges affecting the entire health care continuum, but especially Florida's nursing centers. Unfortunately, our care centers are facing a historic labor crisis, losing more than 10,000 jobs since the beginning of the pandemic. We want to thank House Speaker Chris Sprowls, Representatives Trumbull and Avila for acknowledging the challenges that are impacting access to care for our most vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities. The funding included in the House initial budget proposal is an important first step toward helping providers overcome their staffing shortages.

Long term caregivers have one of the most important jobs in our state. We look forward to working with the Legislature to ensure the final budget prioritizes our nursing centers and the staff who work tirelessly every day to provide compassionate care to thousands of residents.
