Reina Beck of Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home Named 2020 LPN of the Year

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida Health Care Association recently recognized Reina Beck, a licensed practical nurse at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home, as 2020 LPN of the Year. This recognition is part of FHCA's Excellence in Long Term Care Nursing Awards, which are traditionally presented during FHCA's Nurse Leadership Program. However, due to COVID-19, the Program, along with the Awards Ceremony, has gone virtual. Nonetheless, Reina, who was nominated by her co-worker and RN, Elaine Chaika, was still able to receive her official plaque as celebrations carried on at the Port Charlotte care center, surrounded by co-workers and friends.

Reina, having over 30 years of experience in long term care, has demonstrated a passion for caring and impressive knowledge in healthcare. She began her career at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home as a CNA. Her peers then knew Reina had the innate sense of dedication and care needed to succeed in long term care from her early years at the center. She later assumed her current role as a licensed practical nurse and is currently working toward her RN degree.

As an experienced healthcare worker and a military veteran, Reina understands the expertise and logistics of running a thriving center for residents who are veterans. She has made it a priority to ensure the residents not only receive high-quality care, but also the recognition deserved as individuals who served our nation. Her peers at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home describe Reina as both a privilege to work with and a true embodiment of a dedicated individual in the field. She is an example for others to follow, always remains confident in her abilities yet humble and appreciative to work in long term care.

Her nominator, registered nurse and fellow third-shift team member at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home, Elaine Chaika, describes Reina Beck as the true spirit of nursing. She knows Reina has a wonderful future in store at the center and is certain in her skills to continue advancing in her career. Elaine also shared that because Reina served in the military, she brings a truly special connection to residents of the center.

"Reina is a prime example of a successful professional in long term care," said FHCA Executive Director Emmett Reed. "Her dedication and commitment to both her residents and staff does not go unnoticed. Equipped with her strong skill set and extensive expertise, we are proud to highlight her as one of the state's best and brightest nurses."

The Excellence in Long Term Care Nursing Awards were presented during FHCA's Virtual Nurse Leadership Program, with FHCA President Marco Carrasco and award sponsor Robin Bleier of RB Health Partners, Inc. honoring these healthcare heroes for their dedication and commitment to quality long term care. Recognition was given to the 2020 Nurse Administrator, RN, LPN, and CNA of the Year, along with the Rising Star in Long Term Care Nursing Award recipient.
